Gone Girl

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

I knew I wanted to read this book after I heard the DJ's of the morning radio show I listen to just RAVE over this book. Then I received it as a gift from my son my last birthday and almost a year later I finally picked it up.

Yes, this book gets you hooked from the get go and it was absolutely riveting, the story just builds, captivates you and then . . . oh. . .really? But . . .really?  Yes, I had high expectations and the characters just let me down, way down. This story is dysfunctional marriage at its sickening best. It is almost unfathomable to imagine a husband and wife ending up at a point that is levels below rock bottom, yet those marriages exist. I suppose I prefer not to dwell on such misery but rather do the ostrich head in the sand thing, so that when I read of this it's quite the shock, quite the reality.

Was this a good read? Definitely. Did I like the story? No. Would I recommend it? Yes, but on a case-by-case basis.
